The Future of Cloud Computing

IGI Global Announces Favorable Review of Achieving Federated and Self-Manageable Cloud Infrastructures

By IGI Global Scientific Publishing on Sep 28, 2012
Cloud computing might be considered one of the newer players in the grand scheme of the electronic service and business technology fields, but in reality, it has grown and developed over the years and is now plays a significantly vital role.

Cloud computing is the utilization of remote servers that can be accessed over the internet via email, social networking, or game users. It is thought to date back to the 1950s, when larger mainframe computers became available for the first time in academia and corporations. Over the years, computers slowly became more established and less costly allowing technologists and scientists to explore ways to make large-scale computing more widely available. With the technical knowledge that we have today, advancements in cloud computing will continue to progress.

In IGI Global’s recently released publication, Achieving Federated and Self-Manageable Cloud Infrastructures: Theory and Practice, authors Antonio Celesti, Francesco Tusa, and Massimo Villari note:

“All over the world in both academia and industry contexts, many operators are picking up the advantages of cloud computing and federation in planning the Internet of the future.” […] “Cloud federation is at the early stage, and the scientific community is not fully aware how the federation will impact the cloud computing scenario.”

Achieving Federated and Self-Manageable Cloud Infrastructures: Theory and Practice discusses cloud computing on two levels: the fundamentals of cloud computing and its impact on the IT world and an analysis of the main issues regarding the cloud federation, autonomic resource management, and efficient market mechanisms.

Dr. Wolfgang Gentzsch, IGI Global contributor and expert in High Performance Computing, recently reviewed this book and remarks:

“For the researcher, it contributes to the actual and open research areas in federated clouds." [...] "For the practitioner and user, it provides real use cases demonstrating how to build, operate, and use federated clouds, which are based on the real experience of the authors themselves. Practical insight and guidance, lessons learned, and recommendations."
