Is This the Key to Reducing Climate Change?

By IGI Global Scientific Publishing on Apr 24, 2025
digitalHas the UK discovered a breakthrough in the fight against climate change? A new project has launched in the UK where scientists are exploring ways to extract carbon from the ocean in an effort to curb greenhouse gas emissions—widely recognized as the leading driver of global warming. This emerging approach, known as carbon capture, aims to either reduce carbon from entering the atmosphere or remove the carbon that has already been emitted.

The project, known as SeaCURE, sets itself apart from traditional carbon removal methods by extracting carbon from ocean water instead of the air. Scientists involved in the initiative are investigating whether this approach could prove to be more efficient and cost-effective, as carbon is more densely concentrated in seawater than in the atmosphere.

While there are concerns about how low-carbon water might affect marine life, experts suggest that any potential environmental impact could possibly be managed through mitigation strategies. Dr. Ashok K. Rathoure discusses the issue of climate change and the importance of sustainable practices in his Scopus indexed book, Biodiversity Loss Assessment for Ecosystem Protection (ISBN: 9798369333303).

Biodiversity Loss Assessment for Ecosystem Protection distinguishes itself by embracing the concept of "Publishing Tomorrow's Research Today" through its integration of cutting-edge methodologies and its focus on addressing the critical but underrepresented area of biodiversity loss within the context of ecosystem protection. Unlike conventional works, this book emphasizes interdisciplinary approaches that combine advanced technologies, such as remote sensing and machine learning, with ecological and engineering perspectives. It also prioritizes actionable solutions and frameworks that align with emerging global sustainability goals, filling a crucial gap in scholarship by linking biodiversity conservation with practical implementation strategies for ecosystem resilience.”
